There is a lot of noise about getting your business into AI answers. Some of it promises secret tactics. Google, which runs AI Overviews and AI Mode, says something plainer. In its Search Central guidance on AI features, which shows a last-updated date of December 10, 2025, Google states: "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary."
That does not mean there is nothing to do. It means the work is the fundamentals, done well and kept accurate. It also means any agency, including ours, should be honest about what can and cannot be promised. Google also notes that meeting every requirement does not guarantee inclusion: "Indexing and serving isn't guaranteed."
So what does Google tell site owners to do? According to its guidance, a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet. Beyond that, the advice is familiar: create helpful, people-first content; make sure crawling is allowed in your robots.txt and by your hosting or CDN provider; make content findable through internal links; keep important content in text form; provide a good page experience; and keep Business Profile and Merchant Center information current. Google also recommends verifying your site in Search Console. On structured data, it says the markup should match the visible text on the page, and that there is no special schema.org markup you need to add.
For a Caribbean business, five practical checks follow.
First, can search engines reach your pages? A site that blocks crawlers, or hides key information inside images or PDFs, makes itself harder to understand.
Second, does your site say clearly who you are, what you do and where you operate, in plain text? If your services span several islands or markets, say so on the page.
Third, are your Business Profile and other listings accurate and consistent with your website? Different opening hours, names or service descriptions in different places create confusion for people and for machines.
Fourth, is your content genuinely useful? Pages that answer real customer questions, in your own words and with specifics, are what people-first content means in practice.
Fifth, check what you actually appear in. Traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in the Web search type in Search Console's Performance report, so you can see how your pages perform.
One limit is worth stating. Google's guidance covers Google's features. Other AI tools may draw on different sources and behave differently, so the sensible approach is accurate, consistent, well-sourced information about your business wherever it appears.
This is the thinking behind Answer Engine Optimization: making information about your brand easier to find, understand and represent accurately, without promising that any AI platform will mention or recommend you.
